How can I help keep my dog secure?

Make sure you contact Buddies to claim a FREE Buddies ID tag and a years FREE cover of the Lost & Found service. It’s important to attach the unique ID Tag to your dog’s collar at all times and check it’s there regularly.

How can I minimise the chance of my dog going missing?

Make sure your garden is secure. Wherever possible, don’t leave your dog alone, out of sight or tied up where it could be stolen. Don’t put your dog’s name on a tag. Some finders are more inclined to keep dogs if they know them by name. And most importantly, don’t forget to put Buddies’ number, 0800 977 5725, in your home and mobile phone memories.

What should I do if my registered dog gets lost?

Thoroughly check your house, garage, garden and the neighbour’s to make sure your dog hasn’t found a new exciting hiding place. Call Buddies Lost & Found on 0800 977 5725 and give all the details about your dog, including name, age, description and any distinguishing marks. Also give your Buddies Lost & Found tag number as shown on your certificate. You’ll then need to email or post us a recent photo of your dog, preferably showing the whole body. But don’t delay calling us because the first few hours are crucial.

What should I do if I lose my Buddies ID tag?

Don’t worry, just call Buddies for a FREE replacement.

What should I do to keep my registration active?

We rely on being able to contact you so do remember to update us if you change your phone numbers, including mobile, if you move house or alter your emergency contact details.

What will Buddies do if my dog goes missing?

We will alert local dog wardens, the police and vets, post details on missing pet websites, inform the Buddies Lost & Found community and send missing posters for vets to put up in their surgeries.

I’m going on holiday, should I let you know?

Yes if you’re going to leave your dog with someone else. Just call us and give us the holiday contact details. Make sure whoever is looking after your dog knows it is registered with Buddies Lost & Found, and give them the ‘If Lost’ number 0800 977 5725.

What happens when a person finds a Buddies registered dog and calls the number on the tag?

We’ll contact the number we have for you or your holiday contact. We’ll make sure your dog is being cared for before getting you back together through a dog warden, the police, a vets surgery or shelter.

Will it cost anything?

In some cases, yes. Dog wardens are legally obliged to charge £25 if they hold a dog,and this can sometimes be up to £100 or more.

Do I need to offer a reward?

No, because a finder has a legal duty to return your dog. Occasionally a finder may demand money before handing back a lost dog.

What about microchipping?

For double protection, Buddies recommends you have your dog mircochipped. Ask your vet for more information about microchipping.

Will Buddies always find my dog?

We’ll do our very best to reunite you but, sadly, some dogs disappear without a trace. However, with Buddies Lost & Found plus microchipping, you’ve got a very good chance of getting your dog back.
